Inlays & Onlays

Inlays and onlays are great to restore teeth that are extensively damaged and can be more suitable than crowns.  Inlays and onlays are porcelain fillings, but can be made from composite resin and even gold for individuals with severe wear who grind.

The advantage of a porcelain inlay or onlay is that it is made outside the mouth by our ceramist and is then bonded to the tooth to give a longer-lasting restoration than composite resin.

The difference between an inlay and onlay is the location and extent of the tooth surface it restores or covers.  An inlay is placed into the tooth.  Whilst an onlay is placed onto the tooth, hence, it also covers a cusp and essentially sits on top of the remaining tooth and covers more tooth structure.
